STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
How to make an Outstanding Tiny Desk AI video
Choose one clear portrait for the lead singer or five portraits for a full cast, upload them to Tiny Desk AI and create a vertical tiny desk concert video with sound: 15 seconds for Solo or about 13.6 seconds for Five. No editing timeline or prompt writing is required.
Updated October 26, 2026THE SHORT ANSWER
Upload your cast, create the video, then download the MP4.
Open the Outstanding Tiny Desk creator, choose Solo Cast or Outstanding Five and add one clear portrait to every required slot. Confirm that you have permission to use the photos, then sign in and start the creation.
When the result is ready, play it from Your creations and download the 720p, 9:16 MP4 with sound (Solo: 15 seconds; Five: about 13.6 seconds). AI results can vary, so clear portraits give each person the best chance of staying recognisable through the camera cuts.
BEFORE YOU START
What you need
Clear portraits
Use one portrait for Solo Cast or five separate portraits for Outstanding Five. Each image should show one adult face.
Permission to use every photo
Only upload photos of yourself or adults who agreed to appear in the AI-generated video.
An account and video Credits
Sign in before generation and use a one-time video pack. The creator shows your remaining videos before you submit.
A place to save the result
The finished MP4 stays in Your creations so you can play it and download it to your phone or computer.
STEP 1
Choose the cast mode that matches your idea.
Solo Cast · one photo
Replace only the lead singer. The backing performers and sax player stay from the reference video.
Outstanding Five · five photos
Use a separate portrait for the lead singer, three backing performers and sax player to recast the full visible group.
Do not use one group photo to fill several roles. Separate portraits make each identity easier for the model to read.
OUTSTANDING FIVE UPLOAD ORDER
Keep one person in each fixed position.
Photo 1 · Lead singer
The center performer and primary close-up. Use the clearest portrait for the main subject of the joke or celebration.
Photo 2 · Front seated backing
The most forward backing position. Choose a portrait that does not resemble the lead singer.
Photo 3 · Rear-left backing
The backing position on the rear left. A distinct face, hair shape and clothing colour make the role easier to track.
Photo 4 · Rear-right backing
The backing position on the rear right. Keep this person visually different from Photos 2 and 3.
Photo 5 · Sax player
The side-frame musician in the saxophone payoff. Do not place the intended lead singer in this slot.
Upload order controls role assignment. The creator labels every slot; fill Photo 1 through Photo 5 in that order instead of relying on file names or a group photo.
STEP 2
Pick photos that stay readable in motion.
Keep one face in each photo
Use an individual portrait rather than a crop containing friends, posters or faces in the background.
Show the eyes and face clearly
Avoid sunglasses, masks, heavy filters, motion blur and hair covering important facial features.
Use even front lighting
Choose a sharp, well-lit image without blown highlights, deep shadows or a strong colour cast.
Prefer a head-and-shoulders crop
Leave enough context for the person to be readable without making the face small in the frame.
STEP 3
Upload the portraits and make the video.
Open the creator
Go to the Outstanding Tiny Desk page and choose the cast mode you want to make.
Fill every required slot
Add a clear portrait to each visible role and replace any image that is dark, blurry or contains extra faces.
Confirm photo permission
Check the permission box only after confirming that every person shown agreed to the upload and AI use.
Start the creation
Sign in, choose a video pack if needed and submit. Your selected photos stay in place while you complete those steps.
STEP 4
Play, download and share the finished concert.
Completed results appear in Your creations. Play the video first, then use Download to save the MP4 to your device.
The output is designed as a vertical clip for TikTok, Reels or a group chat. Check every visible person before posting, especially when you used five separate identities.
FULL BAND ACCEPTANCE CHECK
Watch every role before you call the result complete.
The reference video shows the intended shot order; it is not proof that a generated result kept all five identities. Review your own finished MP4 from beginning to end.
Opening backing trio
Photos 2, 3 and 4 should appear in their assigned positions with no duplicate person and no role swap.
Lead singer close-up
Photo 1 should remain the lead singer in the main close-up and after every later cut where the lead returns.
Saxophone segment
Photo 5 should replace the sax player in the final payoff. A missing Photo 5 or original sax performer means the full cast was not preserved.
End-to-end identity continuity
Pause on each camera change. Treat any reappearance of an original performer, merged face or person moving roles as a failed identity check.
NO EDITING TEMPLATE NEEDED
Do you need a Tiny Desk meme template or CapCut?
No. Tiny Desk AI already uses the configured performance reference, shot rhythm and output format. You choose the cast and upload the portraits; you do not need to find a CapCut template, edit the camera cuts or write a generation prompt.
IF SOMETHING LOOKS WRONG
Fix the source photos before spending another attempt.
The person is hard to recognise
Replace the source with a sharper, front-facing portrait with visible eyes and even light.
Two people look too similar
Use clearly different portraits and avoid images with matching hats, angles, filters or heavy shadows.
The original performer returns after a cut
This is identity drift, even if the opening looks correct. Review the entire result and do not present it as a complete five-person replacement.
The sax player is missing or unchanged
Confirm that the intended sax player was uploaded in Photo 5. The saxophone segment must show that identity for the Full Band result to pass review.
Two roles are swapped or duplicated
Check the Photo 1–5 assignment order and replace look-alike portraits with more visually distinct source photos before another attempt.
A paid generation fails
Credits charged for a failed generation are returned under the credit rules. Check Your creations before submitting again.
The result varies from the reference
AI-generated appearance, clothing, motion and timing can vary. The reference explains the intended format, not a frame-perfect guarantee.
